Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023: Opening Salvo into the Year

Hi friends, I had hoped to be able to meet earlier in the month before many returned to college, but alas, the Schwagers were hit with quite a few colds/flus, so that wasn't happening.

We are moving forward with something that I think you will enjoy a great deal: Salvo. Salvo is a Christian apologetics and news type of magazine geared for young adults. The articles are never particularly long or exceptionally challenging to follow, but they engage important topics from a god-honoring perspective.

I purchased paper copies for you all! This current issue cover issues from Aliens to "A Lyrical Life" (being a mother and musical artist and performer) to a short history of hallucinogenic mushrooms to Pride and Prejudice marriage examples...and so much in between.

Dane's birthday was yesterday, so his family is preparing a wonderful dinner for him tonight, and he'll be missed.

See you at 4pm. Meris has been working on a delicious dinner for two days. Invite your friends. In Christ, the Schwagers

G.K.C.: Suspension of Disbelief

Hi friends,

Well, our last meeting was, indeed, wonder-full!  The apologetics, the drama, the history, and the Q and A made it far-and-away the best lecture evening in my memory.

With that said, I think it time to suspend the monthly subversive activities of our local Chesterton society.

Since the new ray of Sunshine has entered our life, I haven't put much into the group in the way of planning and preparing (beside this one big event).  We can't really meet at my home, and when we moved to the church, we only had two jolly warriors join me those two months.

I know many of you would like to come but find the evening full of children, coaching, providing, planning, and the like...better things to attend to (as I can attest, four-fold).

So, when noteworthy news comes up, I will announce on the blog (http://longbowsong.blogspot.com/) which you may follow by email (or unsubscribe from) as you wish.  That way, I won't be spamming anyone who doesn't wish this particularly glorious flavor of bacon.

Perhaps a more jovial venue will open in the future when our Sunshine decides to save her rays for daytime activity.  Or, if anyone else would like to head the Chesterton society, I will share the blog and contact list with you.

Until then, find the wonder in what's around you!

Enjoy,

Marcus

October 1 Meeting

6pm at 1940 Bonita Avenue in Aptos, Ca, for an evening of Chestertonian proportions!

No meeting this week

Hi friends,
Let's meet next on Oct. 1 (for the big event!).

I had wanted to keep our meeting this week as well (being the 4th Wed. of the month), but my wife sustained an injury to her foot yesterday and is crutch-bound right now...I need to pretend be a responsible adult = ).
So, cancel this week, but be sure to come next Thursday, Oct. 1, at 6pm to 1940 Bonita Dr. for an evening of Chestertonian proportions!

All the best,

Marcus

IMPRORTANT LOCATION CHANGE

Greetings!
Important change: The Chesterton Society will be meeting at 1940 Bonita Dr. in Aptos at 7 pm tomorrow night (Wed., 8/26).  (This is the location of Trinity Covenant Church and St. Abraham's Classical Academy.)
This will be our new meeting location.

I have been sending messages to local churches about the Oct. 1 evening with Dale Ahlquist, and while I don't expect many people to begin joining us early, I want to be prepared just in case (my house doesn't seat very many).  This seemed like a prudent move.
As always, there are no readings you need to catch up, and you can come in any month...we keep most month's readings self-contained.  If you are writing anything you'd be willing to share with us, please bring it.
Enjoy!
Marcus
Hi Friends,

We will be meeting next week (4th Wed. of the month).

Remember that Dale Ahlquist and Chuck Chalberg are visiting Thursday, Oct. 1.  You all know that Ahlquist lectures and writes prolifically, but here is a link to some of Chalberg's background.

Enjoy,

Your Host

We meet tonight (7/22/15)

Hi friends,
We meet tonight at 51 Roosevelt St.  If it's warm, we'll go outside to enjoy the weather.  If the fog blows in, then business as usual.
We will entertain snatches of anything you all are writing, we'll discuss a bit of Chestertonian news, and we'll read from the links below.
By the way, if you'd like to order a book, Crossroads Books in Watsonville will give your 15% off any book you order if you mention The Chesterton Society (no other secret handshake needed).
Lastly, though we have our BIG night on Oct. 1, the Chesterton Society in Sacramento will be hosting our speakers on Oct. 3.
Enjoy,
Marcus "Kusie" Schwager
